Some of our Bradford team had the chance to catch this award-winning show when it came to the Alhambra theatre in Bradford earlier in the year and here is what we thought ..
We arrived on opening night at the Alhambra excited to see what Alexandra and the rest of the cast had in store for us. Obviously some minor tweaks to the plot had to be made to ensure the production translated for the stage but they really are minor so fans of the film will not be disappointed and we had so much fun we really didnt mind.
One thing is clear, if you had any doubt that Alexandra Burke could pull off two hours of belting out Whitney classics, she puts that to rest the minute she comes on stage with a high energy, pitch perfect version of Queen of the Night that really sets the scene for the evening ahead. Burke really is sensational and perfectly cast as the spoilt but vulnerable Rachel Marron. There is plenty in there for Whitney fans too as extra classics such as One moment in time, So emotional and Saving all my love are worked into the show. The supporting cast is a real joy from the loveable Frank Farmer, played by Stuart Reid with considerably more charisma than Kevin Costner brought to the role to the adorable Fletcher (played by a rotation of talented young actors) and Rachels sister, played beautifully by Melissa James. A real highlight is the fantastic duo of Run to you by James and Burke and of course Alexandras version of I will always love you is stunning. In fact we might just have to go and catch the show again in Manchester!
The Bodyguard is running at The Palace Theatre in Manchester, just around the corner from Zouk from 8th December 2015 to 2nd January 2016. Its the perfect Christmas treat for Whitney or Bodyguard fans alike.
